Building Brighter Futures: Voices Beyond Borders’ Effort for Children in Nepal
Education in Nepal continues to face significant challenges, particularly in rural and remote areas. While national efforts have improved school enrollment rates, many children still struggle to access quality education. Schools in isolated regions often lack basic infrastructure such as proper classrooms, textbooks, and trained teachers. Students frequently travel long distances to reach school, and families living below the poverty line cannot always afford uniforms or learning materials.
The impact of these barriers is visible in attendance and literacy rates. According to international education data, many children in Nepal do not complete their primary or lower secondary education. Girls and children from marginalized communities remain the most affected. The shortage of qualified teachers, limited school resources, and economic hardships have continued to restrict equal learning opportunities across the country.
In response to these challenges, our organization, Voices Beyond Borders (VBB), launched an initiative in October 2025 to support children’s education in Nepal. Recognizing the value of community involvement, I assembled a core team of volunteers in Dubai who shared a commitment to improving access to education for underserved communities.
Together, we organized several fundraising activities, including bake sales and charity donation drives, to engage local residents and raise awareness about the educational needs of Nepali children. Through these efforts, we successfully raised more than AED 5,000, which was donated to the Dubai Cares “Adopt a School – Nepal” initiative. The funds will contribute to constructing and improving schools, providing essential learning materials, and supporting long-term educational development in rural areas of Nepal.
In addition to fundraising, we conducted a stationery drive to collect notebooks, pens, and other classroom supplies. These materials were distributed to schools in underserved communities, directly benefiting students who lacked even the most basic tools for learning. Feedback from teachers and community partners confirmed that the support improved student engagement and classroom participation.
The initiative demonstrated how collaboration, awareness, and small actions can make a measurable difference. It strengthened the bond between volunteers and beneficiaries, and it reminded us that education is not only a right but also the foundation for opportunity and growth. Voices Beyond Borders remains committed to continuing this work and exploring new ways to empower children through education.
